The American Academy of Professional Coders recently released their 2011 Salary Survey, with positive results for those entering, or already employed in the Medical Billing and Medical Coding fields. The academy reported, “with nearly 12,000 responses, the greatest number so far, it’s clear that salaries are climbing upward for coders, and coders who have invested in their education and professional development are reaping the greatest rewards.”
The AAPC also cited that the profession’s unemployment rates are lower than the national average: “Unemployment in the United States has fluctuated around 9-10 percent for much of the past year. Coders are slightly less affected with an 8.7 percent unemployment rate, according to our survey.”
